Beijing

Still here. Just really busy. The weather has cooled down nicely in Tokyo, although it has been rather rainy lately. I've noticed a sweet, nostalgic smell in the air the past few days. It reminds me of Taiwan for some reason. I wonder if it's a local plant.

Anyway, a picture from August: the parking lot of a shopping area/condo complex in a suburb of Beijing.

I think I know what you mean about the sweet, nostalgic smell in the air reminding you of Taiwan. (That's where I grew up.)

I was wondering if it's the scent of fragrant olive flowers? There are these trees with tiny yellow blossoms blooming right now, and the Japanese name 金木犀 translates to fragrant olive.

Ohhhh, I wouldn't have a clue! I'm at a loss when it comes to flowers, plants, and all things botanical!

I googled images of 金木犀 but failed to recognise the flower. Next time you see one, smell it!

Yeah, I'll have to sniff it soon :)
