買い物。。。

Amerie "Heard Em All"

Amerie's upcoming new single Heard Em All is addictive!!!

Amerieの曲 Heard Em Allはすごい!
たまらない!

とりあえず Why R Uを先に買う。

あんなに個性的な音楽を作るのはすごい。
最近の新しいR&Bはどれでも同じっぽい。たとえばEsmee Denters;彼女は歌えるしデビュー曲は聞きやすいけどそんなに頭に残らない。

stay in Fukuoka and study Japanese!

My friend runs a Japanese Language School in Fukuoka that offers various accommodations in addition to a wide variety of lesson plans; the manga and anime courses look very fun.

I've never been to Fukuoka before, but as part of Kyushu, it is famous for tonkotsu ramen (my favorite type of ramen). It is also apparently extremely convenient, being only 20 minutes by train from the airport! Tokyo, in contrast, is an hour and half to 2 hours from Narita International Airport, and an hour from Haneda airport, the domestic airport.

Fukuoka is apparently home to quite a lot of game and anime developers, so the manga and anime courses are probably great fun. It seems rather more authentic than going to Harajuku to stare at the ever dwindling numbers of goth-loli kids there.

This seems like a great way to combine some intensive Japanese study with a trip to Fukuoka and Kyushu. I may have to try it out this fall before the JLPT.

Alicia Keys vs. Beyonce

Japanese Certification (日本語検定)

There's a new Japanese exam called 日本語検定 (nihongo kentei; Japanese Certification). Their 3rd exam will be given this June. The site only appears to be in Japanese, so I guess it's targeted for native speakers and their parents (perhaps mostly their parents), unlike the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and the BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test.

社会人になってから vs. "entering the working world"

It's common to say "社会人になってから"(sha-kai jin ni natte kara) in Japanese, which roughly translates into "entering the working world" although the more literal meaning would probably be "becoming a (productive) member of society." "Productive" being commonly used in the English phrase, and probably is implied in the Japanese one.

I don't know of many English-speaking people who talk about when they became a productive member of society, though. It's more "when I graduated from college" or "when I started working." In the IT world in Japan, it doesn't seem uncommon to graduate from 2-year technical schools and go right to work. Lots of people seem to go to 4-year colleges, but still.

hiragana and katakana worksheets, plus apt. hunting

I ought to think up more clever titles for my posts.

I found a website with pretty worksheets for practicing your hiragana and katakana.

As I plan to commence apartment hunting this weekend, I did a little research online and found this blog quite interesting. It mentions some housing organizations that I hadn't heard of.
