Found Carolina Hererra Chic for 1260 yen in a little drugstore in Shibuya with a surprisingly extensive inventory of perfume and drugstore items.
In the store, I noticed the signs saying not to touch the perfume after I accidentally knocked a bottle to the floor. Interestingly, they don't let you test the perfume on skin - perhaps too many people trying to spray without buying? Many of the testers are broken anyway, including Chic, Mat:Matsuzaki White, and a silver Mat.
Chanel Cristalle EDT can be had for 5600 yen (before tax?) so it's really not a bad place to pick up certain interesting finds. The Mats all went for about 4000 yen or so.
Anyway, currently testing Chic - it's interesting. As people have mentioned on fragrantica, the opening is off-putting. I get some aquatic notes from it so I'm not sure how much I like it...
Chic is listed as in production, but the NY Carolina Herrera
site no longer lists the women's version, and the international version
only talks about the newer CH fragrance line.

fantasy list: Frederic Malle Coffrets Collection
For 2012, Frederic Malle has come out with the Coffrets Collection!
If I could! I would buy the 2012 collection - the complete sampler of fragrances. However, I won't. I don't trust being able to store fragrances properly in the Tokyo summers. In any case, I haven't even gone through the samples that I do own from the line.
Ah well. I will dream of Frederic Malle and Calvin and Hobbes. Some day.

Shiseido Limited Edition Camellia Compact
I want this Camellia Compact from Shiseido!
It's gorgeous! And it's sold out on Shiseido's online shop! Argh.
Update: I called my nearest Shiseido counter, and they still had 1 unit! So I reserved one, and dashed over during lunch.
The friendly saleslady applied it on me so that I could see how it looked. It's lovely! Swirled together, it's a lovely soft red; a natural flush that suits my coloring very well. It's a soft blush - the included brush picks up pigment quite easily. Although gold sparkles are visible on the pristine blush, it seems to be mostly an overspray, as the tester they used didn't show nearly as much of the scattered gold sparkles. The white is a soft, shimmer-less white that does not seem excessively pigmented - the SA didn't need to blend after applying this powder to my skin.
At 4200 yen, it was easy to purchase. I'll just cross some other blushes off of my lemming list. It also comes with a flat soft brush in a separate light plastic case.
On my lemming list is the Zen White Heat Edition limited edition eau de parfum; a very wearable white floral. It's sold out online, but definitely still available at counters. It's certainly more interesting than the Maquillage holiday perfume, which seems to be a forgettable fruity floral.
On the inaccessible lemming list, there's a limited edition fragrant camellia oil Koyu (dead link: http://www.shiseido.co.jp/koyu/) made from the famous white camellias of Goto island off the coast of Nagasaki, Kyushu. Goto is also famous for their delicious Goto udon - prepared with camellias. The Shiseido oil, labelled Euthrixine (dead link: http://www.shiseido.co.jp/koyu/history/index.html) as a nod to the 1898 hair oil launched by Shiseido, smells delicious - white camellias, according to the SA - but being an oil, the fragrance does not last. A soft whisper is lingering an hour after applying. Camellia oil can be used to moisturize the skin and add shine to the hair. Sadly, this particular oil will set you back 10,500 yen, which is a bit difficult to justify. Despite the price, it seems popular, as the counter I visited only had one more unit left to be reserved. Reserved! Not even actual stock, but reservation spaces!
2013/01/07 update: Sadly and annoyingly, Shiseido seems to have taken down their pages for Koyu, but you can still see an image at Elle Japan.
It's pretty dangerous to work near a department store.

L'Artisan Parfumeur news
Perfume buffs may be interested to know that the new L'Artisan Parfumeur shop in Omotesando, Tokyo is selling L'Eau du Navigateur.
Seville a l'Aube is also on sale in Japan. After reading Beautiful with Brains' review, I want to go sniff it!
Other reviews at Bois de Jasmin and Now Smell This are also positive, so my expectations are rather high now. At the very least, it is worth sniffing.

If I had money to burn...
I'd buy Les Coulisses du Parfums offered by Les Senteurs. Especially vol. 1, Mythic Accords, which offers a forward by Alberto Morillas!
Then I'd buy the Hermessences Discovery set, selecting Vetiver Tonka, Rose Ikebana, Osmanthe Yunnan, and Brin de Reglisse or Vanilla Galante.
Ah well. I also discovered that YSL Cinema is a lovely fragrance on me. And the original Gucci is not a bad scent at all. The recent re-release of Feminite du Bois is quite nice too.

lunch plan
Ramen (for a fast meal that I haven't had in ages), and a trip to the Santa Maria Novella (link to Japanese site) shop in Ginza to try out Eva, a perfume that sounds intriguing and perfect for summer.

fragrance: L'Artisan Parfumeur, Les Parfums de Rosines
I sprayed on a few Rosines yesterday. They all have a similar base; very pretty rose, but I guess I'm not that into rose. I have a small decant of Un Zest du Rose, which I like but am not often inclined to wear. It comes out when I attend weddings.
I got a chance to play with the L'Artisan fragrances available in Japan, and I am quite a fan of Premier Figuier. A very nice, quiet fragrance with a bit of green. It would be quite easy to wear. However, I don't really feel any pull to wear it. Ananas Fizz came 2nd to Premier Figuier, and I was not drawn to La Chasse Aux Papillions.
So far, Barbara Bui's fragance is probably the most likely purchase for me. I did get a chance to try Sarah Jessica Parker's Covet (why don't they bring Lovely to Japan?) and it was quite nice, but I feel no pull.
